The world of PR is fast paced, ever-changing and a lot of work… and oh boy did I figure that out quickly. My time at The Peach and Pineapple Co. definitely had its ups and downs where stress levels would of broken a heart monitor and the amount of laughter throughout would of won the internship a ‘Best Comedy Award’. Having completed my internship and looking back on everything I can now fully reflect on what I have achieved and learnt throughout this experience. Over the internship period I was responsible for generating content for the following accounts; HyperLuxe, Pogo, Disney and Fringe World. Despite each client’s services being vastly different I soon learned the same procedures can be used with each client but slightly altered to accommodate their differences. Once I grasped this concept the work load became a little less overbearing and I truly began to see through the paper work fog. Throughout the internship I was mainly tasked to handle the following activities:
- SEO blog writing – Set to the challenge of time constraints.
- EDM creation – Had to consider how to covey the client message, prioritising what they want to show their customers to turn them into a sale.
- Pitch writing- Writing to media outlets and blog sites about a story idea based on the client.
These three tasks were something I had never done before, I was using software that we had never looked at during my studies but I knew these new skills would serve me exponentially in the future.
Future.
Now that’s a word that has been playing on my mind a lot since completing my internship and nearly the semester. I would like to say that this experience gave me complete clarity into where I want to be in the next 10 years but instead I think I have come out of this not knowing exactly what I want to do but who I want to be, what I want to be surrounded by and what I enjoy doing.
The times when I felt the most happiest was when I was doing tasks that had a creative outlet, whether that was EDM or invitation designs. I am someone who wants to put my imagination to use and get the colour on paper. Secondly, I want to be surrounded by like-minded people who are willing to share their knowledge and help others grow. I believe in collaborating with people to help think beyond the box. Lastly, work isn’t always work, it can be fun too. My time working with the television news cast at the beginning of my internship was a highlight for me because it showed that you can still have fun while maintaining a sense of professionalism. Seeing the news happening in the flesh broke down the ‘other world’ barrier that the entertainment industry creates. It made everyone seem human which leveled the playing field and made me feel a little less like an outsider. Overall this was an experience that taught me to be confident in my work and gave me drive to be the best I can be in my future profession.
Now I do feel that it would only be fair to make some sort of Anne Hathaway reference in this blog to pay tribute to all the others, and so, I end my time at The Peach & Pineapple with an infamous quote from her movie Bride Wars, one that I hope everyone remembers during their career;
“You’re only human. You don’t have to have it together every minute of the day.”- Anne Hathaway

Well done Olivia in completing your internship and encapsulating your overall learnings from this experience. Sometimes they help us to decided what we DON’T want to do, and that in itself is a major breakthrough.
Good luck in finalising your report, and my best wishes for all your future endeavours.
