Goodbyes does not mean the end
The last week went though just with a blink of an eye. The days working with the professionals will end for now. But i am already looking forward to work in the Public Relations field.
Throughout the last week, I was just updating on the media room where i need to move all the media contents in their current website to a new platform that they have created.
I had an amazing experience in Curtin University Malaysia’s Corporate Communications Department. I definitely have learned so much. Although it is just a short period, but the knowledge build was out of the world.
Lastly, I would like to thank my supervisor, Mr Aizat to approve my request to o my placement in the Corporate Communications Office. Besides that, he also show me a lot of public relations tactics. Also to thank my manager, Mr Nicholas Leong for the encouragement words throughout my placement. Last but not least, the colleagues in the corporate communications office Chloe, Ian and Arthur for bring joy and laughter to the office. Thank you all for the memorable experience.
WEEK 3! Press Conference
This week the corporate communication team was invited to join the press conference of an event organized by the Curtin Malaysia Student Council, “Slide The City”. It is an event where they brought the biggest slide in Asia to east Malaysia. It is the first time that event being brought to east Malaysia. I was pretty excited because it was my first time being to a press conference and my very first time stepping into the Miri City Council conference room.
On the day itself, I was driving to the press conference venue. When i arrived, I get to meet so many medias in a room. The medias are from different newspaper companies. This is a great opportunity to meet the medias to get linked with.
The press conference’s spokesperson was the event director from Money Theory – the company who the student councils collaborated with. Then followed by Slide The City’s organizing chairman The conference ended by Miri Mayor’s speech.
At the end of the press conference, We also got to at in touched with the Mayor’s assistance to book a time for another press conference regarding the Curtin Open Day.
Wait, what? 2 weeks left?
Since i am very familiar with my organisation structure way before the placement, therefore i managed to follow up the phase at work very quickly. My supervisor told me i was lucky that i the time i chose for my placement isn’t peak period that’s why not much task was given.
As Curtin Carnival 2018 (Open Day) is about one month away, The department is busy with sponsorship hunting and booth renting open to public. I was using the old school way ( the traditional medias) by faxing the letters to the organisations. I was wondering why would we need to fax them when we can just email to them for free? But i never get an answer for that. Either way, I completed the task from faxing them to print out hard copies to mail them out.

Sponsorship letters to mail out to the selected companies.
There was this morning, it was raining cats and dogs. I was driving to work as usual but because of the rain i switch on my headlight. After 9 hours of work, I went to get my car and i could not start the car. Then i realized i forgot to switch off the headlight. I quickly ran back to the office to ask for help. I was very fortunate to have such caring supervisor and colleagues. They helped me to jump start the car and waited with me for about 30 minutes for the car to start. That was my very first experience of drained battery.

When it comes to Friday, IT’S MEETING DAY!!! As usual, the meeting started at 3pm. I like this opoen day meeting as the chair person (my manager) is a very chill person but very responsible at the same time. The meeting is coordinated very precisely. He likes to get ideas from others in order to improvise the current situation faced.

Besides staying in the office, I was busy with a Marketing camp. It was not internship related but iwas glad that my supervisor allowed me to dismiss for meetings with the committees. At first i thought it was just a briefing and that’s it. But i ended up taking charge of many activities in the camp.
As i was working in the corp com office, it was easier for me to help out with the Marketing camp too. I need to work with the design department to get the campus map and certificates to be printed out.
I also received a new task on Friday, which i have to move all the media releases from the old website to a new website from 2011 onwards. My colleague will teach me on the coming Monday (16/07/18) . Honestly i am kinda excited because i will have moreeeeee task to do! yay!
Corp Com Trainee – Week 1
This is my second Internship being in a PR Marcom department. I had my internship in A’Famosa, Malacca. And my second internship would be here in Curtin University’s Corporate Communications Department. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to being an intern here. It felt like Déjà vu working in a similar office area where art&design department is in the same room. I often peak at what the design department are designing because i find it fascinating looking at their designs.
The staffs in the office are always helpful when i meet any difficulties. The manager is very chill compared to my previous Manager who is very unfriendly. I would say, being in a stress free office makes the staff come to work with a cheerful feeling even though its a Monday!
Day 1
For me, Day 1 is always the most unexciting day because all you do is media clippings. From my previous experience i had to read the outdated newspapers because my supervisor is very busy with work as she was the only PR staff in the office. Here in Curtin Corp Com department the newspaper is up to date! Thank God because i hate reading out-dated newspapers.

A PR person will always have their fingers dirty first thing in the morning!
Day 2
I was surprised when my supervisor gave me my window ID and Password! That means I am officially a staff (still intern) in Curtin! I logged in to my desktop and continue working on Media clipping from e-news. Then i was asked to fill in the activity report for media clipping.

Day 3
My supervisor introduced me a website to track Curtin related news in social medias. It is called Meltwater ( a singapore based website) It was fun tracking so many Curtin related hastag and saw a lot of instagram and twitter post by the students.

Day 4
New task coming in! I was asked to interview for Humans of Curtin on Friday. As i have helped corp com in this project before so i was pretty excited to do this!
Day 5
My supervisor whatsapp-ed me that he will not be in office today as he took MC (Medical Leave). I was being very professional and knew the task I need to complete ( Media clipping, Activity report, Interview). I interviewed a student for Humans of Curtin and wrote the content of the interview to be post on Instagram later. After the interview, my manager asked me to join the Curtin Carnival Open Day meeting. I joined the meeting and gain experience on how they managed open day which involved different staff from different department. The most important department will be PR&MARCOM as this department need to design so many things such as flyers, bunting, banners, backdrop, and ads. Not only that, the PR department will need to communicate with different medias to spread awareness.

Meeting is always boring but this is exceptional!
One week passed i am looking forward to what new tasks are given to me already!
