So after being at my internship for a few months now I am very excited to say that I am moving on up! I have officially been asked to increase my days from two to four, and move into a paid marketing assistant position!

This is honestly all I could have hoped to gain from this internship and I’m excited to continue to get some real-world experience under my belt as I move into my final semester at uni.
Getting this news definitely came as a bit of shock, with weeks of imposter syndrome and constantly worrying that I was working too slow, or that my work wasn’t up to standard. Turns out no feedback is good feedback here and I must be doing something right! It’s extremely fulfilling to know that the work I have been doing has made some kind of mark and I am so excited to be considered one of the team here.
This change has also meant more responsibility and autonomy. A good thing, but definitely a scary thing. I have been officially assigned a list of monthly tasks, including monthly social media content, EDM’s and research tasks, that although I have already been doing, are now truly my responsibility to manage and complete on time. I’m looking forward to having a consistent list of jobs, that I can organise myself, and not have to be constantly told what to do, but most of all I am already excited to make a very pretty excel spreadsheet to track my tasks!
With this change, of course, comes new pressures. Suddenly I’m being paid for my work?? Not that I wasn’t already giving my all, but now it definitely feels like I have to make sure my work is worth the money they’re paying me! I am in direct contact with clients and even presenting in meetings.
But wait, I’ve saved the best till last…I get my own desk! Officially upgraded from the intern table to my own desk and computer, oh, and did I mention my own company email address and official signature! It’s funny how these small things become so exciting- a true representation of me becoming part of the team. I know in 5 years’ time I’ll be looking back thinking how silly it is to get so excited over these things!

I am so, so, excited to be moving into this position, but mostly to be part of such a supportive and lovely team of girls who I know will work to help me succeed. Only one week to go in my official internship period…let’s see how it goes!

No surprise to me Nikki – you deserve to be recognised for your passion and commitment – well done!
Hi Nikki,
Congratulations! How exciting to hear you’re moving into a paid role from your internship. You must have really showed them what you’re made of! I bet it would come as a bit of a shock, especially if it is something you were not expecting to come from the end of your internship.
I love that the thing you’re most excited about is making your excel spreadsheet to tick off all of your items each month, I’m personally the same with that kind of thing, I love to tick it all off and see my progress. At the moment, I have a little whiteboard set up until I fully set up my desk space at home so I can see everything getting ticked off and watch my progress throughout the week!
It’s absolutely not silly at all to be excited over getting your own email address and seeing your email signature with your name for the first time! When I saw mine, I took a screenshot and sent it to myself because I was super excited!
I look forward to seeing what you make of your new role and how you find settling into a paid role in the industry! All the best!
